From Herbs to Intuition...

Updated: Mar 27, 2023

It took me four years to paint like Raphael but a lifetime to paint like a child.” Pablo Picasso

Please welcome Melissa Lettick one of our two new Over the Mountain Tour members juried in this year. She comes from a strong art background with a BFA from California Institute of the Arts and earned her certification in intuitive painting and expressive arts teaching.

Many of you know Melissa as The Herb Lady for her unique assortments of over 20 potpourris. She calls that her “craft” and notes that “scent is a subtle thing with its own colors and textures.” While she discovered that making art couldn’t support her, it “still called out to me. I loved colored pencils and I studied with Judith Cornell using art as more of a spiritual practice.” Talk to any artist and they can tell the story of their journey to find the right medium and practice and Melissa has had her own unique path.

She embraced Intuitive Painting seeking to paint with the heart and not the mind. She calls it “painting from the inside” or “painting like a four-year-old.” She has also embraced teaching and now holds Saturday Zoom classes which welcome both the beginner and the experienced artist.

She’ll display some of her pieces at our July 21-23 Studio Tour Show at Evolve in Shepherdstown. And she’ll join Neil Super at the Shenandoah Planing Mill site for the November Tour (Nov. 11-12) where she’ll be surrounded by lovely scents (potpourri) and fascinating prints. Her websites are www.mysticalimaginationarts.com and www.theherblady.com.

TEASER: You’ll be hearing about our second new membership in our next blog. Here are some hints. It’s a partnership that should be well known to many for the beauty they produce and like Melissa, works with organic materials.
