You just can't keep an artist down!

The metals Hannah Ehlman works with are bronze, copper and sterling silver. Her favorite two metals together are copper and silver.  “I like to ‘heat patina’ my copper to get a deep, bold, burgundy color that looks wonderful with the white metal, sterling silver.”

People, you are going to love the work of Hannah.  What a lovely addition to the studio tour. These elegant necklaces, bracelets, earrings, are designed, created and formed by Hannah.

Originally from Maryland, Hannah has set up her jewelry in several make-shift studios. One was in the high Rockies of Colorado. Her studio there was in a shed where she suited up in her snow clothes to get to work. A closet was her studio in Frederick.  Hannah settled into her new home in Jefferson County a year and a half ago. She found coffee shops, a yoga studio, her walking trails (for her snow dogs too) and the Over the Mountain Studio Tour. How nice! She juried this year along with six new members and created a new studio for herself in a 10 by 10 space in the basement of her WV home, just for jewelry making.

She was a painter when she attended Frostburg State University, but she had all kinds of choices to explore. There was a small corner of the sculpture studio designated for jewelry making. She sat down at the bench. She was hooked.  Metals drew her into a new creative world. She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

Designing by sketching is sometimes a good way to begin to create, but she is also into free form design with the metals and does not mind veering off into new creative territories, and away from her original thought. Some designs are repeated, like in the bracelets for example, but others are completely unique to the twists and turns of her creative hands and mind.

Be sure to put the Over the Mountain Studio Tour on your calendar for the second weekend in November (the 9th and 10th).  See our six wonderful new artists and look for exciting new work from our 15 returning artists.
